Migrating from Carl-bot to Ori — Ori Discord Bot

Ori handles reaction roles, welcome messages, moderation, and auto-roles with a visual dashboard that takes minutes to set up. If Carl-bot’s configuration has been frustrating, add Ori alongside it and try the dashboard. Most admins disable Carl-bot within a week.

Carl-bot is powerful but complex. It has hundreds of settings, tag scripting languages, and configuration that can take hours to get right. Ori focuses on the features most servers actually use and makes them work on the first try.

You won’t find Carl-bot’s tag system, automod rules, or logging granularity in Ori. But you will find a dashboard where every plugin works in under 2 minutes with zero documentation required.

Add Ori to your server. Run both bots simultaneously during migration.

Open the Ori dashboard:

  • Reaction Roles — Ori’s visual builder lets you map emoji to roles and preview the result. No commands, no syntax.
  • Welcome — write your message with variables, pick text or embed format, test it.
  • Moderation — enable /kick, /ban, /mute, /warn, /purge with automatic logging.
  • Auto-Role — pick a role, toggle on. Done.

Use the test buttons in the dashboard to verify each plugin works in your server.

Step 4: Disable Carl-bot’s overlapping features

Section titled “Step 4: Disable Carl-bot’s overlapping features”

Turn off Carl-bot’s welcome, reaction roles, and moderation features to avoid duplicates. Keep Carl-bot for any advanced features you still need.

If Ori covers your needs, remove Carl-bot from Server Settings → Integrations.

  • Tag system — Ori does not have custom command/tag scripting
  • Advanced automod — Ori does not have word filters, anti-spam, or anti-raid (use Discord’s built-in AutoMod instead)
  • Logging — Ori logs moderation actions but not message edits, deletes, or member changes
  • Starboard — Ori does not have a public starboard feature
  • Suggestion system — Ori does not have a suggestion/voting system
  • Sticky messages — Ori does not have sticky message functionality

Can I run Carl-bot and Ori at the same time? Yes. Disable overlapping features to avoid duplicates (e.g., both sending welcome messages).

Is Ori’s reaction roles as powerful as Carl-bot’s? Ori supports up to 25 button-based role mappings per message with custom emoji and colors. It doesn’t have Carl-bot’s unique/exclusive role modes across multiple messages, but it covers the majority of reaction role use cases with a much simpler setup.

My Carl-bot setup took hours. How long will Ori take? Most admins configure Ori in under 5 minutes. The dashboard is visual — click, configure, test. No syntax to learn.
